Braces

Get a Straighter Smile with Braces

Braces for Young ChildrenBraces are a common solution for treating crooked and misaligned teeth.

Colorado Family Orthodontics recommends that you take your child to see an orthodontist by age 7 to determine whether they have any developing orthodontic problems. However, it’s never too late for an orthodontic evaluation. We can determine if treatment is required and the best time for that patient to be treated.

Why Treat Children Now?

When treatment begins early, the orthodontist can guide the growth of the jaw and guide incoming permanent teeth. Early treatment can help:

  • Regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches
  • Gain space for permanent teeth
  • Avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions
  • Reduce likelihood of impacted permanent teeth
  • Correct thumb-sucking
  • Eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems.

In other words, early treatment can simplify later treatment.

Choosing Between Invisalign & Braces

While many adults prefer treatment with Invisalign, braces are common for children because they don’t require the same amount of self-discipline. Invisalign aligners can be removed, but they need to be worn pretty much 24/7. Children often aren’t able to handle the demands of Invisalign, but Colorado Family Orthodontics does offer, Invisalign Teen, which is a good option for responsible teenagers.
